- Who should be notified?
- AOL member services at 800-827-6364
- Who can notify them? What documents are needed?
- Any family member can call AOL to notify them about the death. No specific documents are needed to just tell them someone died.
- If no password, can survivor receive one? How?
- If you want to keep the account and/or access it, AOL will collect information in order to issue paperwork for you to fill out. You will receive this paperwork within 5 business days by US mail or by fax within 72 hours. Once you have completed the paperwork and returned it to AOL, it may take up to 72 hours for the information to be updated.
- Process for inactive accounts?
- AOL will deactivate a screen name if the account is inactive for more than 90 days. They will cancel an inactive free email account after 30 days. If the screen name is assigned to a fee-based service, the account must be “used regularly” to keep the registration active. Premium email products may be subject to additional terms. For a fee-base service, someone must pay the amount owed on the account at the time the fee-based service and/or account is cancelled.
